MEMORIAL OF SAINT MARTIN OF TOURS: Our devoted, wholehearted service given to Christ in the poor is a living proof to the Church that we are a living part in the body of Christ and that Christ is pleased with us and shares his love for his Father with us.The poor allow us to love and serve Jesus in them. I think you know the story of Saint Martin -- how, as an ordinary man in the world, he was riding along on his horse, when he saw a beggar shivering with the cold. Without a second thought, he took his sword and cut his mantle in half. That night, he had a dream in which he saw Jesus covered with his mantle. Beautiful! The mantle was the means for him to become a Christian, since at the time he was not.Let each sister see Jesus Christ in the person of the poor: the more repugnant the work or the persons, the greater also must be her faith, love, and cheerful devotion in ministering to our Lord in this distressing disguise.
