MONDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF LENT: Being a prophet is not about predicting the future or having an original idea. Rather, it is about bearing God's righteous news, which is good news for the poor and weak, and often disturbing news for the wealthy and powerful. For this reason, Jesus can say as a simple matter of fact that "no prophet is accepted in his own native place." Not only do prophets face social pressure to be silenced, but they are also usually dismissed by those who have known them earlier in life.Those who are closest to us -- our friends, siblings, neighbors, coworkers -- are often so familiar to us that we know their weaknesses and imperfections. Relying on our knowledge or assumptions, we may be quick to ignore or reject difficult truths they convey, even if they are correct and the message is from God.God of the prophets. you call people in every generation to announce good news to the poor and challenging news to the powerful.
